Course Description

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.

Forklift truck means a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground, but does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck.

A person performing this work is required to hold a forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).

This unit requires a person operating a forklift truck to:

plan for the work/task
prepare for the work/task
perform work/task
pack up

This Training Product will be delivered as follows:

No of students per class – 7 Maximum

Day 1 covers:

  • Forklift theory and legislation — Victorian OH&S requirements, operator responsibilities, and WorkSafe Victoria regulations
  • Forklift components, controls, and pre-operational inspection procedures
  • Load calculations, stability principles, and weight distribution
  • Hazard identification and safe operating procedures
  • Introduction to practical forklift operation — getting hands-on time behind the controls from day one

Day 2 covers:

  • Knowledge and calculations Test
  • Practical Test — manoeuvring, stacking, load handling in real-world scenarios
  • Both days run 8:00am to 4:00pm at 88 Merola Way, Campbellfield Vic 3061

Course Fee & Administration Fee

Course Fees Individual Learners From $419.00 each for TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck, this includes administration fees and must be paid before course commencement. All Resources, course-ware and handouts provided.

 

Please note: There will be a $73.50 WorkSafe licensing processing fee that is payable to WorkSafe upon successful completion of your course.  Positive Training Academy has no control over this fee, and is subject to change without notice.

Selection Criteria

Students will need to meet the Selection Criteria requirements to be eligible to enter into this course. Evidence of the student meeting the Selection Criteria will be collected as part of the Enrolment process. Must provide acceptable photo ID such as Victorian driver’s license, or any other Australian driving license, passport, Vic roads proof of age card or Key-pass card. · Willing to do Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (Due to WorkSafe Victoria’s requirements no interpreter is allowed for language difficulties)  

You must be over 18 years old (proof of age required before the course starts).

The RTO reserves the right to change the units within this training as required

Mode of Assessment

Observation/Practical Skills

A range of observation techniques have been included in the assessment tools to help identify the students’ ability to demonstrate their competence against the performance criteria and assessment conditions. The assessor utilises the Observation Checklist to identify observable skills either during a practical assessment or the student demonstrates the skills on the job.

Oral Questioning

The student will be assessed using Oral Questioning based on their understanding of the competency being assessed. This can be undertaken during an observation/demonstration or through an interview method, where students discuss their competence with the Assessor.

Written

A written assessment tool is provided to the student to gather evidence using a range of methods, these could include short answer questions, long answer questions, scenario based questions, or multiple choice.

Case Studies

This method is used to provide the learner with the opportunity to apply their required knowledge within a given context, providing the student with a task whereby they can apply their skills to a real life example. Simulated – This method allows the student to demonstrate their skill and attitude in their current work environment or a mirrored simulated environment. The evidence gathered from this approach is to assist the assessor by observing their conceptual, interpersonal and technical ability.
